Friday, February 11th, 2005- Shanghai, China

We got into PuDong International Airport at a little after 7pm. We then took the hour long bus ride west to Shanghai. I was very surprised to see a lot of signs and billboards in English. I was very exhausted after the 13 hour flight. We checked into the JC Mandarin Hotel which is a beautiful hotel on Nanjing Street in Shanghai. Josh, Kara, and this girl Sue we met who speaks Chinese, and myself then headed out to the market.
On the way back I was overwhelmed by children begging us for money. They would come up to us and grab us and follow us down the street as their parents watched on. The harsh reality of this society has just began to surface for me.
- All the hotels that we have stayed in Asia you need to stick your room key in a slot next to the door for the electric to work. It’s a good way to remember where the key is but if the key isn’t in the slot then the electric doesn’t work, which can get kind of annoying.
