Monday, February 14th, 2005- Beijing

The first stop of the day was at Tiananmen Square which was very crowded. The huge Forbidden City was our next tour. The only problem with the City was that there were a lot of renovations going on in anticipation for the Summer Olympic Games in 2008. We ate lunch at the Afanti Restaurant which had a stage with ladies dancing. After lunch we were all pretty tired but had one more stop to go, the Lama Buddha Temple. Among other things, it had the world’s largest wooden statue.
In the evening I was treated to seeing a Kung Fu show at this amazing looking theater named The Red Theatre. The premise of the show was about a Buddhist boy who aspires to be the head Buddhist monk. And the story is told though different Kung Fu exhibitions.
Everyone got alcohol and brought it into the theater (common practice) and by the end all the students were totally drunk. I even went out to the concession stand to get a soda because I had a cough and they would only sell me a beer. I must say Nanjing Beer is very good.
